Last weekend I bought a new lens just before a shoot with Alysha at Far Beach in Mackay and couldn't be more stoked with the results.

Alysha picked up posing like a natural after I shared a few tips on how to pose in between shots and we came away with some pretty special pictures.

I still can't help but think that bokeh is cheating but damn it makes for a nice photo. I suppose the trick, as with any creative pursuit, is to not get stuck in your ways and instead keep seeking out new ways of doing what you do.

I've never played with a lens with such large aperture before so it was a real treat to do so - but I certainly don't want to get stuck into the habit of shooting portraits with the same lens all the time.

Just like I don't want to get stuck in the habit of shooting with the same film all the time. Nor do I enjoy seeing Mackay photographers shooting in the same locations all the time. There are a plethora of unique natural environments to shoot at in Mackay and I can't wait to try them all.

Thanks Alysha for a great afternoon.
